- Modders have been oversizing the AMD RX 9070 GPU with a simple trick
- They have been using the BIOS for RX 9070 XT with the vanilla GPU
- While this provides a great impulse of performance, which in fact makes RX 9070 as fast as the XT version, there are great warnings here
It seems that AMD RX 9070 graphics cards can be supercharged simply by applying the BIOS for its GPU of higher -level brothers, the RX 9070 XT, based on experiments that have recently been performed.
Videocardz noticed that the modders that inhabit the PC Games hardware forum (a German technological site) have been playing with the installation of BIOS XT in models without STIs of RX 9070.
Of course, this should not be done in theory. After all, these are two completely different models of graphics cards, and the BIOS for each is specifically designed for that GPU, and should not be used elsewhere.
Doing this would not work at all in many cases, in fact, sometimes GPU owners are completely blocked from the use of firmware (another term for the BIOS) in this way, but because the RX 9070 vanilla card is quite similar to RX 9070 XT (in terms of many specifications), and there are no such restrictions instead, this trick can be removed. (Although I would not recommend this yet for reasons that I will return).
However, that warning pointed out that what these modders found with RX 9070 that executes a BIOS RX 9070 XT was enlightening, to say the least.
According to reports, there were no problems to use the XT BIOS in this way, at least at first glance, which essentially applies more power and faster watch speeds to RX 9070, and the graphics card apparently can also be overclocose on top of this.
As Videocardz points out, the RX 9070 supercharged in this way was approximately 15% to 20% faster than the GPU normally, with that additional overclocking applied, mind. This means that it is close to the stock performance RX 9070 XT (without overclocking) when the BIOS destined for XT is used (but then 9070 XT could also be overclocked, of course).
Analysis: three words, don’t do it
How can RX 9070 almost be equal to its XT turn? Well, I must stress again that RX 9070 is approaching the performance of 9070 xt in this way it is due not only to the use of his strongest brother, but also because the GPU is being an overclocked above of that.
In summary, this is a large amount of fudging and pushing the limits of flashing a version of BIOS not intentionally in RX 9070. Even without additional overclocking, you can see a lack of stability of the 9070 GPU trying to deal with an XT BIOS use, and frankly, I think this is probable, although the ODDs can depend on the good form of a chip that it has had. (There are variations in the quality of the GPUs, which means that it will obtain slightly better results in situations where the chip is really pressing if it has been lucky and won the so -called ‘Silicon Lottery’).
With overclocking as an additional measure here, increasing the BIOS XT, I would say that it is very likely to cause technical problems. In fact, some of the modders involved here reported that their PC sometimes locked themselves, but could adjust these problems. It is definitely the case that those who do not have, at least, confide very much in their technological skills, should not be trying anything like this.
Even if things seem good to start when this trick is used, which is the case for some, apparently, who can say if a future update of the driver could throw a key in process? Or if a future game could have problems with an RX 9070 that is turbocharged in this way.
In the long term, an RX 9070 graphics card will also execute consistently well above the power, and the temperatures, its cooling system was designed. Then, especially if it is an entrance level board without the best refrigerator, that could lead to potentially serious problems eventually.
The other point to remember here is that if something goes wrong, either with its initial attempt or on a later date, it could end with a blocked GPU. And if you think your guarantee will cover the results that an alien BIOS gets in your graphics card, well, think again, you will not, and will be up to a lot of money.
It continues a lot under your own danger, given all this, but it is still interesting to see the results of experiments like this, and how fast RX 9070 can be when it turns on in this way.
If you want to try to get more performance of your RX 9070 graphics card, you would simply suggest to seek overcoke it (with the right BIOS for the GPU). But even then, you will need a good understanding of technical knowledge to proceed, ideally, because things can still go wrong with overclocking.
