Rawalpindi:
A six -year -old girl was swept in an open sewerage drain in the Khalid neighborhood, Mohra Chhappar in Chakri Road. Rescue 1122 launched a search operation, but was suspended at sunset due to darkness and will resume on Monday morning.
In a separate incident in Adiala Road, two cattle shepherds were stranded in a mound after the water level suddenly rose. They were rescued safely by the 1122 rescue personnel who used a boat.
Rescue officials said the missing girl, identified as Nagina, had been trying to recover a shoe that had fallen into the drain when she lost her balance and was carried by the current.
The rescue teams came to the site immediately, deploying an emergency vehicle, an ambulance, a water rescue vehicle and a team of seven members that included two divers and swimmers.
It is reported that the drain has five to eight feet deep, with water flowing eight to 10 kilometers per hour. Despite a search throughout the day, operations stopped at dusk due to poor visibility. The authorities confirmed that the search would resume from the same point on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, in Adiala Road, the rescue teams acted quickly after receiving reports from two men trapped by fast -state water. Both were evacuated in minutes and moved to a safe place.
