- More than 12,000 Bella Pro series and cooks coffee machines have been removed
- Several users reported injuries after their machines failed high pressure
- The owners must stop using the machines immediately and request a refund
Thousands of expresso machines have been withdrawn after 18 people reported that a component was “expelled” during force “during use. Eight received burns or lacerations as a result.
The affected machines are no longer for sale, but several owners wrote reviews to warn potential customers about risks before voluntary retirement. Some even included photos of broken coffee growers in their kitchens.
“The machine exploded the first time used,” wrote an owner. “The glass and metal flew throughout the kitchen. I was getting milk from the refrigerator and that is why it did not hurt.”
“This product is dangerous,” said another. “It explodes while preparing. The portfilter literally separated from the machine during the elaboration cycle. I have serious burns [due] to […] The defect of this machine. Do not buy this machine. It’s dangerous. “
“The machine exploded”
The problem affects two coffee machines: the steam espresso manufacturer of the Bella Pro series and the Cooks Espresso coffee manufacturer. The machines were imported by Sensio Inc. of New York, and 12,300 were sold in JC Penney and Best Buy, in stores and online, between August 2023 and January 2025.
All removed machines are made of black plastic with stainless steel moldings and have “series Bella Pro” or “chefs” in the front. Turn your machine and you should see a sticker with the model number. If this is 90195 or 22395, you must stop using it immediately in accordance with the United States Consumer Product Security Commission (CPSC).
To request a reimbursement, you can communicate with a sensory free of charge at 855-647-3125 between 8 am and 5 PM ET Monday through Friday, or visit the Bella Kitchenware website. You must damage the UL certification number under the machine, cut your cord and provide photos as evidence that you have made it unusable.
