- The Turkey Telecommunications Regulator, the BTK, has blocked access to websites and applications of the main ESIM suppliers
- Holalfy advises users to install and activate Esits before they travel
- Not activating the ESIM before could leave thousands without Internet access
The BTK, the Turkey Telecommunications Regulator, has banned access to websites and applications of the main ESIM suppliers.
As summer holidays begin, around 13 million British fly on vacation in the next two months, with Türkiye one of the main tourist destinations.
The prohibition includes the main ESIM suppliers for international trips, including Holfly, Airalo, Ubigi and Saily.
How can travelers still access the Internet in Türkiye?
With these recent changes, the United Kingdom travelers are recommended to install and activate their ESIM before taking off, which means that users must ensure that the ESIM is completely downloaded and activated on their device before the exit.
“To avoid being trapped, the United Kingdom travelers must make sure that their ESIM is completely downloaded and activated before leaving the United Kingdom. This means configuring their digital sim while it is still in the United Kingdom networks and confirming that it works correctly before the exit,” says Pablo Gomez, CEO of Holafly.
Most ESIM suppliers for Türkiye allow you to install and activate your plan in advance, and the process is usually fast and simple.
However, not doing so could leave users without internet access to arrival. In that case, users will have to trust public Wi-Fi or try to find a physical, not ideal when free Wi-Fi is not always available, and many people distrust the security risks that entails the use of public networks.
“Otherwise, I could run out of Internet access at the time you land, which can be a serious problem if you trust your phone for maps, transport or reservations,” Gomez added.
