Kolkata: India resorted to displaying troops to quell the mortal protests that have exploded in the western Bengal state about the legislation to change the way in which Muslim property properties are managed.
Police triggered tear gas to the thousands of protesters who met Friday in the State Murshidabad district. Three people, including a child, were killed, police said AFP On Saturday.
“Until now, 118 people have been arrested in relation to violence,” said Jawed Shamim, a senior police officer in the state, added that at least 15 police officers were injured.
The State Superior Court ordered the federal troops to be deployed.
The WAQF amendment bill that triggered the protests was approved earlier this month after a heated debate.
There are about two dozen WAQF boards throughout India, which have about 900,000 acres, a multimillionaire real estate empire that makes them one of the largest owners along with the railroads and defense forces.
The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, who presented the bill on Wednesday, said he would verify corruption and poor management.
Amit Shah, the Interior Minister and a near Modi Assistant, said the changes will help “catch people who lease the properties” to obtain individual profits. “That money, which could be used to help the development of minorities, is being stolen,” he said.
The non -Muslims, which will be included in the Boards as part of the new bill, will only participate in “administrative”, Shah said. However, opposition parties accuse the government of promoting “polarization policy” at the expense of the Muslim minority of India of 200 million.
According to the Hindu nationalist government, it will promote transparency around Earth’s management by holding the powerful WAQF boards, which control the properties given by Muslim charitable endowments.
But the opposition has called the bill a polarizing “attack” against the Muslim minority of India. They accused the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party of Prime Minister Narendra Mod to try to win the favor with his Hindu right -wing base.
After the approval of the bill, Modi called it a “tank moment.”
The head of the opposition Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi, said the bill was “aimed at Muslims today, but establishes a precedent to attack other communities in the future.”
The Modi Decade as Premier has seen it cultivate an image as an aggressive champion of the country’s majority faith in the country.
His government revoked the constitutional autonomy of the majority of India, India, India, illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and supported the construction of a temple in land where a mosque remained for centuries before the Hindu extremists knocked him down in 1992.
