Tiger Woods moves the invitational genesis to San Diego after forest fires damaged the field of Los Angeles

The famous Annual Golf event of Tiger Woods, The Invitational Genesis, will move from Los Angeles to San Diego after the devastating forest fires damaged the original field.

The PGA announced on Friday that the event will move 123 miles to the south, to the Torrey Pines golf course in the Jolla neighborhood in San Diego, headquarters of Farmers Insurance Open this week.

Woods says the event will be a platform to help fire victims.

“We are grateful to the city of San Diego and Torrey Pines for housing the 2025 invitational genesis, and with all those who have approached to support the tournament,” Woods said in a statement. “While Riviera remains the headquarters of the invitational genesis, we hope to play in another championship caliber golf course this year and use the tournament to support those affected by fires in the Los Angeles area.”

The PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan also expressed his gratitude.

“Our thanks to Tiger Woods, TGR Live and Genesis for their leadership in these efforts,” said Monahan. “We thank Farmers Insurance, [San Diego Mayor] Todd Gloria and the city of San Diego and the Century Club for extending the invitation to transfer The GENESIS INVITATIONAL TO TORREY PINES “.

“Highlight Los Angeles’s resilience and the need for continuous support for recovery efforts in progress is what our collective teams are working when playing invitational genesis in Torrey Pins,” Monahan added in his statement.

The Riviera Country Club, where the event was originally to be held, was not destroyed by the fires. However, these are energy and water problems, and the tournament moves out of respect for the victims of the fire.

Invitational genesis is expected to return to The Riviera Country Club in 2026.

“The devastation that is happening with Los Angeles fires is a great tragedy and, being from California, I get home.” Forest said in a shared statement on its social media platforms. “My heart is with those who have suffered unimaginable losses. Thanks to the incredible heroes that are the first to respond that help contain and save the community of Los Angeles.”
