- The Federal Trade Commission has extended the deadline to claim a Fortnite refund
- Now you have until July 9, 2025
- Eligible players can submit a report through the FTC website
The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has extended the deadline to claim a reimbursement of Fortnite shopping.
Previously, consumers had until February 14 to file a claim that has now extended to July 9. The regulatory agency has confirmed that a total of $ 126 million has already been sent to those who filed a valid claim on that first date.
If you have already filed a claim, then no more action is necessary. If you have not done so, you can file an online claim through the FTC website.
The FTC establishes that you can request a refund if it meets any of the following criteria:
- He was charged in the game for articles that he did not want between January 2017 and September 2022
- His son made positions to his credit card without his knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018
- His account was blocked between January 2017 and September 2022 after he complained with his credit card company on unfair charges
It is worth taking into account that you must be at least 18 years old to complete the claim form. A father or guardian can also complete the claim form on behalf of minors of that age.
The claims process is only open for those of the United States. Presenting a claim will not affect your articles in the game or Fortnite account.
The FTC also warned of possible reimbursement scams, reiterating the fact that it will never charge to file a claim. “Do not pay anyone to promise a refund of the FTC in exchange for a rate,” he advises.
What did epic games badly?
These reimbursements are part of an agreement announced in December 2022, which involved an agreement of Fortnite Epic games of the developer to pay millions of reimbursements to the players.
The company allegedly violated the Children’s online Privacy Protection Law (COPPA) through the use of dark patterns and visual design tricks to convince players to make unintended purchases.
“Epic used default predetermined configurations of privacy and deceptive interfaces that cheated Fortnite users, including adolescents and children,” said the president of the FTC, Lina M. Khan, at that time.
“Protecting the public, and especially children, based on online privacy invasions and dark patterns is a priority for the commission, and these application actions make it clear to companies that the FTC is taking energetic measures against these illegal practices.”
In addition to announcing reimbursements. Epic games paid a fine of $ 275 million for violating the rules, the largest penalty for violating a FTC rule.
