Karachi:
The Sindh Prime Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has addressed the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to ensure that the TP-I component of the S-III sewer project is completely operational at the end of August and that the work on TP-IV is accelerated to complete it within a year. He issued these instructions at a high -level meeting held at CM House.
The S-III project is one of the most significant efforts to address the wastewater problems of the city, where 400 to 450 million gallons of wastewater is generated daily, much of which is unloaded without treated in the Lyari and Malir rivers. The project aims to intercept, treat and safely eliminate wastewater to protect the environment, marine life and public health.
The key project components include transmission packages in the Lyari and Malir basins, improving existing treatment plants and the construction of new facilities.
TP-I implies the rehabilitation and expansion of an old treatment plant and is expected to be responsible in August 2025. TP-IV, meanwhile, is a comprehensive system of wastewater treatment and recycling that includes flow and quality monitoring in several sites.
A recent industrial survey revealed that more than 3,600 industries in the area require around 42 million gallons of water per day, which highlights the importance of this initiative to integrate efficient wastewater management in the city infrastructure.
The meeting was reported that 67 percent of the civil works of TP-I have been completed, with only remaining electrical work, which depends on the availability of funds. The prime minister also ordered the minister and mayor of the local government to personally monitor progress to ensure that the work is completed within the stipulated period.
