Tiny11: The tool that facilitates a seriously optimized installation of Windows 11, trimmed from all the Microsoft swelling, has become even smaller.
The Tom hardware collected the launch of Nano11 Builder for the developer, NTDEV, which has that it is possible to put together an installation file for Windows 11 which is up to three times smaller than a standard image of Windows 11.
Nano11 can be used to produce a miniaturized shot in any version of Windows 11, even test compilations such as Windows 11 25h2 (which is now very close to the launch of the finished version).
How does the tool work? It is a Powershell script that can be used to cut a complete strip of Windows 11 Microsoft applications, which also does Tiny11, but Nano11 goes much further than that, eliminating the components of the central system as well.
The latter includes Microsoft Defender, Windows 11’s Drivers, Bitlocker, Biometrics and “Most of the System Services” – OH YES, and Windows Update.
At this point, you are likely to be thinking: wait a minute: we will not receive any security update or features without Windows Update, right?
That is correct, and the installation of Windows 11 that results from using Nano11 will not obtain updates or can be met in any way. As NTDEV explains, “you cannot add languages, controllers or characteristics, and will not receive Windows updates”, so, as a result, Nano11 does not intend to provide an operating system for their daily PC of controllers.
So, although NTDEV describes this tool as Windows 11 with “all the essential elements, none of the fluff”, that is not quite true, some of what many would consider as the essential bones of the desk operating system have been eliminated here.
Analysis: small beyond belief, but not so perfectly formed
Okay, given all that, what exactly is Nano11’s purpose? It is to invent a Windows 11 installer that can be configured in a flash, with an installation that takes only five minutes (approximately) because it has stripped a lot here.
However, as noted, precisely because so much is disbursed in this rationalization process, the resulting version of Windows 11 is only for use in tests or development, and is better adapts to a VM installation (virtual machine). In summary, for the average person, this will not be for real use, and it is more a curiosity than anything else (not for the first time).
However, what illustrates is how many Windows 11 can It is thinned, and how Microsoft inflates the operating system with a lot of applications that not everyone wants.
One of the notable cuts applied by NTDEV is to dump the OneDrive and Microsoft Edge integration, and there are more than a few people who would love to have that option when installing Windows 11. (and yes, it is possible to eliminate Edge in Europe, and does not get the abundant Nagging of Microsoft, either, but it is not the case in another place, sad).
