The Minister of Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to improve trade through railway, road and air routes.
When addressing the Ministerial Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin, China, expressed Pakistan’s great interest in establishing commercial corridors through China, Afghanistan and Iran, highlighting the country’s strategic role in regional connectivity and commercial activities, said a press release issued here Wednesday.
He stressed that under CPEC, Pakistan has achieved important milestones in road infrastructure. “Our approach is now to expand trade beyond the borders of Afghanistan and Iran with totally functional international cargo ports in Gwadar and Karachi.”
The minister also stressed the importance of Khunjerrab in the north and the coastal doors of Gwadar and Karachi in the commercial expansion strategy of Pakistan. Highlighting the regional development initiatives, Abdul Aleem Khan said that the proposed railway project of Uzbekistan-Fganistan-Pakistan would be a transformative step for the entire region.
