The senior minister of Sindh of Information, Transport and Transit Mass, Sharjeel Inam Memon, emphasized that these measures are not intended to raise income, but to save lives and guarantee road safety.
“Traffic offenses such as signal jump, excessive speed and wheels are not minor acts: they are mortal behaviors that endanger not only drivers but also others on the road,” he said, and added that repeated offenders could face the suspension or cancellation of their driving licenses.
In addition, he said that the Sindh government is working to modernize traffic management by introducing a digital monitoring system and strengthening the capacity of the traffic police.
He pointed out that the demerit points system would help track repeat criminals, a practice that has been successfully implemented in developed countries.
Awareness campaigns will also be launched to educate citizens about traffic rules and encourage voluntary compliance, said Memon. “Our goal is to build a safe driving culture and protect lives, not just impose fines,” he added.
