The Darts World Federation ruled earlier this week that female competitions will not allow biological men who are transgender women.

A Trans Dart Throw spoke against the decision in a long Instagram publication, qualifying it as “loss for the trans community in sports.”

“Last Monday, the WDF (World Darts Federation) published a new policy regarding gender eligibility. I want to take a time to answer. This decision affects me personally, although, fortunately, not too severely at this time. But still, it hurts,” wrote Noa-Lynn Van.

“Once again, it is a loss for the trans community in sports. And that breaks my heart. As a trans person in the world of darts, I know how vital it is inclusion, not only on paper, but in practice.”

Van Leuven added that “justice” comes at the expense of “exclusion.”

“It is discouraging to see another policy framed around the ‘justice’ that finally results in exclusion, without really considering the people behind the labels. My heart is with all the athletes affected by this. We are still visible. We continue to continue,” wrote Van Leuven.

Van Leuven arrived twice at the Open Dutch WDF semifinals in 2023 and 2024, but since then he moved to the Darts Professional Championship circuit. Van Leuven has won six female PDC titles.

Two of Van Leuven’s former Dutch companions renounced Van Leuven joining the PDC. Last year, the British dart player Deta Hedman refused to play Van Leuven at a WDF event.

Van Leuven has also participated in open events, with biological men and women.

The PDC executive, Matt Porter, said in November that he believed that the organization’s policy on trans launches is “fair” and had no plans to change the rules despite the decision of the United Kingdom Supreme Court on the definition of the terms “man”, “woman” and “sex.”
