Trinity Rodman on the ‘trauma’ of being raised by former NBA star Dennis Rodman: ‘Extremely selfish human being’

American soccer star Trinity Rodman spoke out against her father, former NBA champion Dennis Rodman, during an interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast this week.

Trinity, who plays for the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), reflected on the strained relationship she has with her father, despite his efforts to help maintain a close public image. He insisted that he finds it “frustrating” every time he does interviews and is asked about his father, due to the “trauma” he keeps inside about him.

“I think we never want to make him look bad, and that’s at the cost of retaining many, many problems that we’ve been through and just the trauma per se,” he said in the episode. “I feel like I’ve been in a situation where I’ve had to go through interviews where people say, ‘Oh, was your dad there? What’s your dad feeling?’ and I feel like I’m trying to make it obvious that I don’t know.”

Trinity says she sometimes even feels frustrated with herself for sympathizing with her father, especially when he tries to brag about his children in public.

“YO“It’s just hard because it’s like even now I’m trying to be honest about it and I keep showing him sympathy, which is frustrating to me because I actually think he’s an extremely selfish human being,” she said.

“I think everything has always revolved around him. He’s been through m…, but at the same time, I think he loves being the center of attention. He loves the cameras. He loves taking his kids on stage and saying : ‘Oh, these are my kids.’ All those things and even the mind… the fucking mind, but, for me, emotionally, he put me through something like, oh my God.”

Trinity added that she doesn’t have her father’s number saved in her phone and that they often go months without speaking at all. But despite their long gaps in communication, she claimed that he will still reach out to her to invite her to appear on a reality show alongside him.

According to her, simply hearing his voice is “painful” and many times, when he calls her, he is drunk.

At one point, Trinity said her father tried to call her from a different phone number that was in Texas and then left her a voicemail that was too long for her to feel comfortable listening to.

“He’s been trying to call me and it’s a number from Texas. I didn’t know he lived in Texas, so that’s news to me. So, I’m thinking it’s a spam risk, all this and I’m like, ‘Okay. They’re just unwanted calls. Ignore them. I get them all the time, so I ignored them, and then I saw voicemails, and then I looked and listened to them for a second and I thought, ‘F—‘ and I think I heard them. I listened for a second because I saw that The voicemail was 40 seconds long and I thought, ‘No, I’m not going to do that,’ and for me it’s like a day of success or failure, and I just say, ‘No,'” he said.
