The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Friday that he had ordered that two nuclear submarines be transferred to the “appropriate regions” in response to the threats of former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev.
“I have ordered that two nuclear submarines be positioned in the appropriate regions, in case these silly and inflammatory statements are more than that,” Trump said in a publication on social networks that described highly provocative Medvedev statements.

Trump and Medvedev, who is vice president of the Russian Security Council, exchanged teasing in recent days after Trump said Tuesday that Russia had “10 days today” to accept a stop fire in Ukraine or be beaten, along with their oil buyers, with tariffs.
Moscow, which has established its own terms for peace in Ukraine, has not shown any sign that it will meet Trump’s deadline.
Medvedev accused Trump on Monday to participate in an “Ultimátums game” and reminded him that Russia possessed the nuclear strike capabilities of the Soviet era of the last resort after Trump told Medvedev to “see his words.”
Medvedev has become one of the most open anti-western hawks in Kremlin since Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine in 2022.
Kremlin critics ridicule it as an irresponsible loose cannon, although some western diplomats say their statements illustrate thinking in Kremlin policy formulation circles.
