US President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Mike Selig, will face his Senate confirmation hearing on November 19, 2025, as Washington moves closer to reshaping cryptocurrency oversight.
Selig, currently a senior advisor to the SEC’s Crypto Task Force, was formally chosen last month after Trump withdrew his previous pick, former CFTC Commissioner Brian Quintenz.
CoinDesk reported in early October that Selig had become a favorite for the position.
If confirmed, Selig would replace acting chairwoman Caroline Pham as lawmakers resume their effort to finalize the cryptocurrency market structure bill, which could give the CFTC direct authority over cryptocurrency spot trading.
The path forward still requires the Senate Agriculture Committee to hold a review hearing for its bill, as well as the Senate Banking Committee to finalize and hold a review hearing for its own version of the bill. The Senate would then need to hold a floor vote on the combined effort, which, if successful, would send the bill to the House for another vote, moves that could push the process into early 2026.
