President Donald Trump said Friday that he would name Sergio Gor, one of his closest assistants, to be the next United States ambassador to India, where he will supervise the frozen relations that have worsened with the planned duplication of US tariffs about India’s assets next week.

Gor, who is currently director of the Office of Presidential Personnel of the White House, would also serve as a special envoy for the affairs of Asia Sur and South and Central, Trump said.

Trump said in a publication about his social account of the truth that Gor would remain in his current position until the United States confirms it for the post of India. Senate.

“Sergio is a great friend, who has been by my side for many years. He worked on my historic presidential campaigns, published my best -selling books and directed one of the Super Pac, who supported our movement,” Trump said, praising Gor’s work to hire staff for his second mandate.

“For the most populous region in the world, it is important that you have someone you can fully trust to deliver my agenda and help us, make the United States great again,” Trump wrote.

The ties between the United States and India have been tensioned by Trump’s commercial war, with conversations about lower tariff rates that collapse after India, the fifth largest economy in the world, resisted opening its vast agricultural and dairy sectors. The bilateral trade between the two countries is worth more than $ 190 billion every year.

Gor, in an X publication, thanked Trump for the nomination and said it would be “the honor of my life” to represent the United States in the new role.

Trump first imposed additional tariffs of 25% to imports from India, then said that they would double up to 50% from August 27 as punishment for the highest purchases of Russian oil in New Delhi.

Trump has not imposed tariffs similar to China’s goods, the largest Russian oil buyer.

The United States Secretary of the United States, Scott Besent, on Tuesday accused India of “his benefit” in his great increase in Russian oil purchases during the war in Ukraine and said that Washington considered that the situation was unacceptable.

Besent told CNBC in an interview that Russian oil now represented 42% of total oil purchases in India, compared to less than 1% before the war, while China, the largest Russian oil buyer, had increased its participation to 16% from 13%.

India is addressing its future commercial relationship with the United States with a “very open mind,” said Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday, while underlineing the consequent and important nature of the relationship with both countries.

Trump’s announcement on Gor’s nomination occurred shortly after the abrupt cancellation of a visit planned by US commercial negotiators to New Delhi from August 25 to 29.
