President Donald Trump increased the pressure on Cleveland’s guardians and Washington’s commanders to change the names of their teams to the Indians and Redskins, respectively, Sunday.

Trump unleashed two publications on social networks that implore both teams that make the movements. Although he threatened to put into play the RFK stadium agreement of the commanders, he said that changing the names was “common sense.”

The Republican representative of the State of Ohio, Brian Lorenz, seemed to agree with the president.

“Do not get with chief Wahoo and expect Cleveland to forget,” he wrote in a publication about X. “Cleveland Indians were not just a team: they were summer nights, family memories, heartbreak and miracles.

“We didn’t change because fans asked, we changed because elites told us to do it. It’s time to bring what he did to us.”

Trump wrote for the first time in Truth Social that there was a “great cry” so that the commanders were called the redskins and the same with the guardians.

“The Washington ‘whatever it is’ should immediately change your name to the Washington Redskins football team. There is a big cry for this,” he wrote. “Similarly, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a historical past.

“Our great Indian people, in large quantities, want this to happen. His inheritance and prestige are systematically removed. Times are different now that three or four years ago. We are a country of passion and common sense. Owners, do it!”

Later in the day, the pressure increased.

“My statement about the Redskins of Washington has exploded completely, but only in a very positive way,” he added. “I can put a restriction on them that if they do not change the name to the ‘Washington Redskins”, and getting rid of the ridiculous nickname, ‘Washington commanders’, I will not make a deal to build a stadium in Washington. The team would be much more valuable, and the agreement would be more exciting for everyone.

“Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The owner of the Cleveland baseball team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three elections in a row due to that ridiculous change of name,” Trump added. “What he does not understand is that if he changed the name to the Cleveland Indians, he could actually win an election. The Indians are being treated unfairly. Make the Indians again again (crumb)!”

While Matt Dolan has a minority participation in the Guardians, it was Paul Dolan who announced the change in 2021.

Cleveland had been known as the Indians since 1915. Dolan said previously that the decision to explore the name change came from “an awakening or epiphany” after George Floyd’s death.

Cleveland was nicknamed The Blues in 1902, then the Napoleons and naps until 1915, when the organization changed the name to the Indians. The team was known as the Indians during the 2021 season.

The president of the Guardians, Chris Antonetti, responded to Trump’s pressure on Sunday afternoon. He said that it was not something that the organization had in mind.

The team told Pak Gazette Digital that they had no more comments.
