President Donald Trump warned Iran to give up any search for nuclear weapons or risk facing a possible military strike in his atomic infrastructure, Reuters reported.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Trump said Iran was deliberately stagnating in progress in nuclear negotiations with the United States. “I think they are taking advantage of us,” he said, after a recent meeting in Oman between the special envoy of the United States Steve Witkoff and a senior Iranian official.

Both parties described Saturday’s conversations as “positive” and “constructive.” A second round is being programmed for next weekend, which is probably celebrated in Rome, according to a source familiar with planning.

It is said that conversations are of an exploratory nature, with discussions focused on the description of a broad framework for a possible agreement. However, Trump made it clear that any agreement must ensure that they will leave all nuclear weapons ambitions.

“Iran has to get rid of the concept of nuclear weapon. They can’t have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

When asked if US options include a military strike in Tehran nuclear sites, Trump replied: “Of course.”

He added that Iran was “quite close” to build a nuclear weapon and urged a quick action to avoid serious consequences.

Indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran took place under former President Joe Biden, but produced little progress.

The last formal agreement, the 2015 International Nuclear Agreement, was negotiated by President Barack Obama and then withdrawn from Trump during his first term.
