ISLAMABAD:
Leaders of an alliance of opposition parties, the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan (TTAP), on Tuesday took out a joint protest walk in Islamabad, from Parliament to the Supreme Court.
Key opposition figures including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Aamir Dogar, Azam Swati, Ali Muhammad Khan and others participated in the rally. A large number of workers also joined the protest march.
At the beginning of the walk, police attempted to stop participants from moving forward, citing safety concerns. However, the continuous arrival of senior leaders and pressure from workers allowed the demonstration to continue.
The participants carried banners and posters and chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments and calling for the true supremacy of the Constitution.
Upon reaching the Supreme Court, the opposition leaders addressed the media in detail.
TTAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said a black day would be celebrated across the country on Friday.
He alleged that the 27th Amendment had distorted the spirit of the Constitution and that the measure was not only unconstitutional but also anti-Islamic.
