Tulane’s football team came out with a 23-3 dominant victory over Northwestern on Saturday, but the green wave has a personal revenge against its opponent.

The green wave faced the Wildcats in the Yulman Stadium in New Orleans, a day after the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina playing land in the city, which forced Tulane to play her games at home in five stadiums in Louisiana and Alabama.

Tulane opted to wear green helmets, similar to those used by the 2005 team, and that team also wore white t -shirts.

However, Northwestern, along the way, decided to go with White in the first game of the season.

Tulane’s chief coach Jon Sumrall said his team requested to use white uniforms to commemorate the 2005 team, but they were denied (the local team usually uses colors).

That, said Sumralall, was “motivation” for his squad.

“That is his prerogative, but when you show disrespect to New Orleans city, that’s what will happen. You’re going to meet a team like this,” Sumrall told journalists after the game.

“They had a chip on the shoulder. He wanted to use the same exact uniform that the team used 20 years ago. The application was denied: we could have used it as a little motivation to represent the city. The respect of New Orleans would not be lacking, never.”

The Superdome in New Orleans did not open until 2006: the Santos in New Orleans also had to move.

Sumrall has been inside and outside Tulane since 2012, first joining school and then as co-defensive coordinator. He left after the 2014 season, but returned last year to become the chief coach after Manning Troy previously for two seasons.
