Two dead and 20 injured in IED explosion in Bannu


Police say an improvised explosive device was planted in a Zaranj rickshaw in front of one of the shops near Miryan police station.

Two people, including a child, were killed and at least 20 others injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a Zaranj rickshaw detonated near the main gate of Miryan police station in Bannu on Monday morning.

Police deployed a large contingent to secure the area and begin investigations. They added that a rickshaw loaded with explosives was used in the attack.

“There are shops located outside Miryan Police Station,” said Bannu Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan. An improvised explosive device was planted in a Zaranj rickshaw parked in front of one of the shops, he added.

“The police personnel present at the spot were unharmed in the blast,” confirmed DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan. After the explosion, the police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the blast that took place in front of Miryan Police Station in Bannu district.

In a statement issued by the governor’s house, Kundi expressed grief over the death of two people in the explosion.

He offered prayers for the deceased and their families, praying for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and patience for the bereaved.

The governor expressed his deepest condolences and condolences to the families of the victims and said that the provincial leadership shares the pain of the families affected by the explosion.

He also denounced those responsible, stating that the terrorists are enemies of humanity and the peace of the province.

Separately, terrorists destroyed a bridge on Monday night on the Tank-Wana main road in Tank by placing explosives at the Kot Hakim location.
