Peshawar:
The Regional Reference Laboratory for the Eradication of Polyomyelitis at the National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed two new cases of southern poliovirus of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, of District Tank and Waziristan of the North.
According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, recent cases of polyomyelitis include a 16-month-old girl from the Mullazai Union, the District Tank and a 24-month-old girl of the Miran Shah-3 Union Council, Northern Wazirist district.
With these detections, the total number of polio cases in Pakistan in 2025 has reached 23, including 15 cases of KP, six of Sindh and one of Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Despite significant progress, the continuous detection of polio cases, particularly in southern KP, remains a serious concern.
However, the National and Provincial Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) are taking all possible measures to guarantee the implementation of high quality vaccination campaigns, the statement added.
