Two of Pakistan’s most saved fugitives, accused of terrorism, murder and kidnapping, have been arrested in Spain, authorities said, which mark a significant advance in Islamabad’s efforts to stop high profile criminals.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, arrests are the result of persistent coordination between Pakistani and Spanish authorities, initiated during the recent visit of Minister Talal Chaudhry to Spain.
The suspects, long fugos of Pakistan, will be delivered to the Pakistani authorities after completing the required legal procedures.
The two arrested individuals, Nawazish Ali Hanjra and Haroon IQbal were arrested in accordance with the Network Interpol notices. Hanjra faces 23 cases that involve serious charges such as terrorism, murder and hijacking of rescue, while Iqbal is sought in a separate criminal investigation.

During his official visit, Chaudhry held meetings with Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, urging rapid action for the arrest and extradition of Pakistani fugitives residing in Spain.
After these discussions, the Spanish authorities issued directives immediately leading to arrests.
Pakistan has been studying the extradition of 38 individuals sought from Spain through Interpol for several years. The recent arrests mark a positive step in this ongoing effort.
The minister expressed his gratitude to his Spanish counterpart for cooperation and expressed his optimism that the remaining fleets that hide in Spain will soon be taken before justice in Pakistan.
