Peshawar:

Two polyomyelitis workers were kidnapped by armed assailants in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa tanks district on Monday, during an ongoing anti-political vaccination campaign.

According to the police, the victims were identified as Sifatullah, (Comnet staff) and Hizbullah, a voluntary polio worker. They were carrying out their duties when the incident took place in the tribal subdivision of Jandola.

The district administration condemned the kidnapping and a case has been registered against unknown perpetrators. A search operation has been launched to safely locate and recover the kidnapped workers.

The kidnapping and attacks on polyomyelitis workers are serious concerns, particularly in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Polyomyelitis workers and their security escorts have often been attacked, especially in KP and Baluchistan.
