Two witnesses testify at the Toshakhana-II trial

Rawalpindi:

The case of Toshakhana-II against the founder of PTI Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, reached a decisive stage, with the Prosecutor’s Office completing testimonies of his last two witnesses during Monday’s hearing in the Adiala jail.

The case focuses on an expensive jewelry set: a necklace, earrings, bracelets and rings, equipped by the Saudi Royal Family to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to the researchers, the set was evaluated at an artificially low price, allowing Khan and his wife to buy it at a fraction of its real value, which caused a considerable loss for the national treasure.

The Central Special Judge Shah Rukh Arjemand registered statements by Nab Mohsin Haroon officer and the deputy director of the FIA, Shahid Pervaiz. With his statements, the evidence of the Prosecutor’s Office formally concluded.

Until now, 20 witnesses have testified, and the interrogation has been completed on 18. Defensor lawyers will interrogate the two final witnesses on September 24 (tomorrow).

Imran and Bibi were produced before the Court, while Imran’s three sisters and Bibi’s daughter, Mehrunisa, were present in the courtroom. Senators Mishal Yousafzai and Ali Zafar also attended the audience.

On behalf of the defense, lawyers Arshad Tabraiz and Zaheer Abbas Chaudhry appeared, while the special public prosecutor of FIA Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi and Umair Majaed Malik represented the prosecution.

The case has seen multiple legal turns. In July 2023, an Islamabad court prevented the National Office of Responsibility (NAB) from pursuing Toshakhana’s reference against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, transferring the matter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
