UN chief appreciates and expresses full support for Pakistan’s diplomacy in US-Iran war


United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his full support for Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday.

Amid the ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran, Pakistan’s leadership has intensified diplomatic efforts in coordination with Turkiye and Egypt to help ease regional unrest. Foreign Minister Dar has engaged in telephone conversations with his counterparts from several Gulf states and other nations, emphasizing the importance of reducing tensions and advocating dialogue and diplomacy in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

FM Dar said on X today that it was a “great pleasure” to speak with the UN chief.

“The Secretary General expressed his appreciation and expressed full support for Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts towards peace and stability in the region,” he said.

The foreign minister said they exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia and its implications for international peace and security.

“I stressed that the UN remains indispensable for conflict prevention and resolution, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path to sustainable peace.”

FM Dar also earlier had a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Dr. Badr Abdelatty.

The two leaders exchanged views on the developments in the regional situation, underlining the importance of dialogue, moderation and collective efforts to foster peace and stability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting all efforts aimed at promoting peace and prosperity.

Foreign Minister Dar also spoke with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan and discussed the latest developments on the regional and international scene.

The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation and emphasized the critical need for dialogue and sustained diplomatic efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.
