Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) remains undecided about participating in the key national security meeting, since its leadership gives contradictory statements about the session in the camera scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday), after the deadly incident of Jaffar Express.

PTI’s central spokesman, Sheikh Waqas Akram said the party would attend the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting.

However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Junaid Akbar said the party had not been informed about the meeting.

In addition, he said that a decision could not be made without consulting the founder of the party, Imran Khan, since his approval was essential for such participation.

Akbar added that PTI would advance in any matter, including the participation of the committee, only after discussing it with its founder. He confirmed that the consultation regarding the assistance to the security meeting would be held.

The president of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, has summoned a meeting in the Chamber of the National Security Parliamentary Committee (PCNS) tomorrow in the middle of terrorist incidents, particularly in Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a statement issued by Prime Minister’s office (PMO) on Sunday, NA speaker scheduled the session for Tuesday at 1:30 pm by the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Military leadership will provide comprehensive information to the Parliamentary Committee on the prevailing security situation, the declaration added.

The session will attend parliamentary leaders of political parties in the National Assembly and the Senate, along with its nominated representatives. Relevant cabinet members will also be present.

Meanwhile, the Government has also pointed out by calling a conference from all parties on the issue of terrorism, with the assistant of Prime Minister Shehbaz, Rana Sanaullah, saying that the ruling alliance would ask the PTI to participate when a meeting takes place.

NA’s crucial meeting has been convened days after a great terrorist attack against the passenger train in the Mushqaf area of the Bolan district in Baluchistan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan, who share borders with neighbor Afghanistan, have faced the worst part of terrorist attacks, with both provinces that represent more than 96% of terrorist attacks and deaths in Pakistan in 2024 according to a 2025 global terrorism report.

Dozens of militants, affiliated with the Baluchistan Liberation Army (Bla), exploited a railway and assaulted Jaffar Express on Tuesday, with more than 440 passengers, which were taken as hostages.

The security forces, after a complex authorization operation, neutralized 33 attackers and rescued the passengers of the hostages.

In addition to five operational casualties, up to 26 passengers were martyred by the terrorists, of which 18 were security personnel belonging to the Army of Pakistan and the border body (FC), three were officials of the Pakistan railroads and other departments, and five were civilians.

In addition, three FC people were martyred in the attack of the militants aimed at a picket before the train ambush.

The country has witnessed a strong increase in terrorist attacks since the Taliban rulers returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.

In January 2025, the attacked terror increased by 42% compared to the previous month, according to data published by the Pakistan Safety Conflict and Studies Institute (PETSS), a group of experts.

Strict security measures have been implemented for the session in the National Security Committee, according to the national assembly spokesman.

The entry to the National Assembly has been restricted, with unauthorized people who are prohibited from accessing the facilities. In addition, all entry cards, including the issuance of media staff, have been temporarily deactivated.

Filming, videography and photography within parliamentary facilities have also been strictly prohibited during the session.

The spokesman emphasized that the authorities are fully aware of the paper and the requirements of the media, but urged the personnel of the media and the relevant stakeholders to cooperate, given the sensitivity of national security issues.
