The British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, praised on Friday the steps given by both Pakistan and India to ensure an agreement to cease hostilities.
This is the first visit of a British Foreign Secretary of Pakistan since 2021, since the United Kingdom presses so that the fragile fire becomes a lasting peace, read a statement issued by the high British commission in Islamabad.
Lammy visited Pakistan to welcome the fire and make it clear that there are no more conflicts in anyone, the statement said, adding that the visit was used to reaffirm that peace and security are the pillars of the United Kingdom’s relationship with Pakistan that will protect growth and prosperity for the British, the Pakistani and the broad region.
“The United Kingdom Government welcomed the sustained fire between Pakistan and India, both important partners for the United Kingdom, and the Foreign Secretary affirmed the importance of continuous stability for the region during a visit to Pakistan today (Friday, May 16),” said the statement.
In meetings with senior counterparts, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the main diplomat of the United Kingdom highlighted the immeasurable contribution that the people of the Pakistani ancestry have made to the British life, and recognized how distressing have been the last weeks for people in both countries, and for those with Pakistan and Indian inheritance in the United Kingdom.
Lammy reflected that the British Pakistani and British Indian diasporas would welcome the news about the high fire and the greatest stability for the two countries.
“The images of conflict between India and Pakistan were distressing for all of us in Great Britain, but in particular the millions of British with the Indian and Pakistani inheritance, and the many British citizens living in both countries.”
From the horrible terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the United Kingdom has done everything possible to play a support role to reduce tensions, reach a high fire and condemn terrorism, he added.
“It is positive that India and Pakistan, both great friends of the United Kingdom, have accepted a pause in hostilities and that the high fire is having,” said the main diplomat of the United Kingdom.
Lammy maintained: “Due to the deep and historical links between our populations and our governments, we are determined to play our role to counteract terrorism and ensure that this high fragile fire becomes a lasting peace.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the United Kingdom and Pakistan have an important story of working closely together to guarantee regional security and stability.
