The United States has once again defeated Canada on Olympic ice to secure gold, this time at the Paralympic Games.

After a 6-2 victory over Canada on Sunday, the United States took home gold in men’s sled hockey at the Paralympic Games.

In doing so, it became the first country to win five consecutive Paralympic titles. They were also the first to sweep all three Paralympic and Olympic hockey events in a single tournament.

Of course, the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams also won gold, taking it in overtime in both gold medal games at the Cortina Games in Milan last month.

But this contest between sporting rivals needed no more time, as the United States saw Jack Wallace score a hat trick, as well as an assist, to help the Stars and Stripes’ cause over Canada.

“This team is so special,” Wallace, who completed his third Paralympic Games, told NBC after the victory. “We love each other. This team tried so hard, it was a brave damn game. It was amazing. I love these guys so much.”

In addition to Wallace’s goals, Kayden Beasley, Declan Farmer and Brody Roybal found the back of the net.

Only Canadian Liam Hickey was able to score, scoring two goals that in the end were not enough.

While hockey is typically a Canadian-dominated sport, the Paralympics have seen Team USA in that position for quite some time now. And they showed why throughout the tournament, going through Italy, Germany, China and the Czech Republic before facing Canada in the gold medal match.

Canada is also one of the best teams in the world, having seen the United States in three consecutive Paralympic gold medal games, as well as eight consecutive world championship finals.

But it has been the United States that has had success at the Olympics, and they continued the trend on Sunday to end what has been an exciting time for everyone at home watching the red, white and blue on the ice.

With the Paralympic Games over, Team USA’s gold marked its 13th total since the event began on March 6. The USA finished with a total of 24 medals overall, including five silver and six bronze.

China was the medal leader in the end, with 44 medals and 15 gold in the bank.
