College Football saw its first playoff system expanded in 2024, with Ohio state buckers winning for all Notre Dame at the end.
However, the system was criticized by many, which led to a discussion about how to solve it. At the same time, expanding the playoffs even more was always a letter on the table too.
Speaking of Buckeyes, Urban Meyer, the former chief coach of College and the NFL, appeared in “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” by Fox Sports “, where he said he would be a fan of the 14 -team university soccer playoff format.

“In fact, I have investigated a little about this,” said Meyer, through a horrible announcement. “It is a 4-4-2-2-1-1 format. I know that it is there a little, but I made a little diving, and of all I have heard, it makes more sense. It is a playoff of 14 teams. Now, there will be a great warning in that, the Big 12 and ACC will be angry.”
Why do Meyer believe that two of Power Five conferences will not be happy with this format? Well, this proposal for a playoff of 14 teams would have the SEC and Big Ten, each with four automatic offers. A general team and the group of five teams would also enter.

“This is the best: it takes it out of the selection and more in access,” Meyer explained. “Then, the selection committee will be wrong. It is an imperfect system. It has been the case since the BCS. I like the idea you play … Do not penalize you. If I am a coach in the current model, I am not playing a difficult team in the first part of the season. That will hurt my team.”
One of the main objections on the current CFP system was the teams in conferences such as the SEC and Big Ten, having more difficult opponents than others, especially at the beginning of the season.

With automatic offers, there is less risk of losing at the beginning of the season when you think about the possibilities of playoffs.
“If you advance in the conferences they handle access, the Big Ten gets four (teams). You are right, I will play Texas because I want to challenge my team. It’s great to recruit. It’s great for our fans. It’s great for football game, and it won’t penalize me. If I still win the Big Ten, I am the seed No. 1”.
Meyer is just one of the many inserting his opinion on this matter, with others such as the analyst of the SEC Paul Finebaum network believing that automatic offers would be “completely wrong” for the game.

“Making our program yesterday, even the sec fans were calling … saying they don’t like it,” said Finebaum. “There is something inherently incorrect to stack the deck before the season.”
