The former female swimmer of the University of Pennsylvania and the conservative influence Paula Scanlan is never humorous when it comes to her alma mater, but she was joking when the university coincided casually asking for a donation the same day that the Trump administration stopped $ 175 million in its federal funds.
Scanlan, who was one of UPENN’s female swimmers forced to share a pool and a costumes with the transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in the 2021-22 season, told Pak Gazette Digital that he often receives requests from the center of university calls for donations.
By chance, she got one on Wednesday, hours after the financing pause was announced.
“They always call me, and they call all the students … Obviously, I am not interested in donating any money. I do not think I will never consider me an apology for being forced to undress in front of a man in the locker room three times a week.
“But, ironically, last night it was one of the times they decided to call me to ask for a donation … they always call me asking for, always asking for money and [Wednesday] It was one of the times they chose to do that, what I thought was really fun taking into account the announcement. ”
Scanlan added that the last time he received a UPENN request for a donation was in February by email.
“This is not something new, but I am sure they are pressing in cash and that is definitely something they are trying to do.”
Riley Gaines wants to send a ‘thanks note’ to Lia Thomas, here is why

However, Scanlan wants more than an apology for his alma mater to have the opportunity to obtain his donation.
“The University of Pennsylvania has more than 150 more unique things in which you can specialize, I think we are looking for mass departments that are completely useless.
“This is not exclusive to the University of Pennsylvania and that is something that I would like to see before donating, not only to my university, but to any university throughout this country.”
Scanlan has been one of UPENN’s most open critics for his decision to include Thomas in the women’s team that dates back to the female debut season of the Trans athlete in 2021-22.
Scanlan, a survivor of sexual assault, offered anonymous information to news reports on the emotional impact that Thomas’s presence had on her and other teammates. Then, in July 2023, Scanlan testified openly together with Riley Gaines to the members of the Subcommittee of the Judicial Committee of the Chamber on the Constitution and the limited government.

Now, three years after the university swimming season that changed its life, it is seeing that the institution that made it pass through that experience pays a strong financial penalty.
Even so, it is not a price as big as you would like to see it pay.
“I think it’s obviously a good thing, it’s a good message to send,” said Scanlan. “But it will only make a small difference and I believe that what they will probably do with the financing cut is probably a couple of administrators, they will not make a general change to these departments, to the types of teachers who are hiring, to the ideology they are teaching.
“I hope we continue to see people take energetic measures against this type of campus and I hope to see the reform, but again, this is just a small first step.”
The news of the financing pause has caused more responses to celebrate some of the former Scanlan teammates, but share their belief that more steps should be taken. The former UPENN swimmer, Grace Estabrook, told Pak Gazette Digital that he wants to see that all the records and praise of Thomas and other trans athletes in the women’s category are revoked.
“Estoy agradecido de que la administración esté reconociendo violaciones federales y tomando medidas, pero aún necesitamos que estas instituciones sean totalmente responsables. Esto significa claros cambios de políticas, los registros anteriores, los premios y los reconocimientos para volver a las mujeres que las merecen, y las instituciones que facilitaron el acoso sexual y nuestro sufrimiento para ser plenamente conscientes de los errores que han cometido y el dolor que han causado, dijeron, según Estabrok.
Estabrook is part of a lawsuit with her and the other teammates from Upenn from Scanlan, Margot Kaczorowski and Ellen Holmquist, looking for Thomas Ruba’s records.
Kaczorowski and Holmquist provided a joint statement to Pak Gazette Digital through the Independent Women’s Sports Women’s Sports Also Trump administration also for the financing pause.

“We are very happy that universities are beginning to see that there is a cost of openly damaging students on their campus and we hope that the pressure only increases. Penn and other universities within the NCAA, under the policy of the NCAA and their own dishonest leadership, have violated federal law and hurt women,” said the statement.
“They have stolen women’s opportunities and prizes, placed women in physical danger and facilitated the sexual harassment of student athletes. All women in a university campus and under the NCAA regulations must be assured of the protections of the title IX. The institutions that ignore the welfare of women have to understand that they do not write again or ignore federal protections in which women face.” “
