It was discovered that the University of Pennsylvania had “violated Title IX by denying equal opportunities by allowing men to compete in female intercollegial athletics and occupy intimate facilities only for women,” the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) of the Department of Education announced Monday.
The OCR said it will give university 10 days to comply with the title IX or the risk of facing a criminal reference to the Department of Justice.

“Girls who admire Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan can find hope in today’s action: the Trump administration will not allow male athletes to invade private female spaces or compete in female categories,” said the Secretary of the Craig Train Trainor civil rights in a press release.
“UpenN has the option to do: do the right thing for your students and comply with full fulfillment of the title IX immediately or continue advancing in an extremist political project that violates the Federal Antidiscrimination Law and puts federal federal funds at risk.”
Pak Gazette Digital communicated with the University of Pennsylvania to comment.
The OCR demanded that the school issue a statement about its intention to follow title IX along with two other key actions.

“Restore all individual athletic records, titles, honors, awards or similar recognition for swimming competitions of the division and embezzled by male athletes competing in female categories.
The problem arose from the participation of Lia Thomas in the women’s swimming team during the 2021-22 season, becoming the first transgender woman to win a national championship. Thomas also broke multiple records at school.
Paula Scanlan, a former teammate of Thomas’ at that time, detailed to the legislators of Congress with what he had to deal with emotional testimony in 2023.
Thomas was able to compete at the level of women of Division I of the NCAA due to the organization’s gender participation policy at that time.

Since then, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to prohibit biological men in women’s sports. The NCAA altered its policy in an attempt to fulfill, but the defenders of women’s sports have said that the change was not far enough.
