WASHINGTON:
The White House said Thursday that no visit from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, was scheduled for Pakistan “at this time” after the generalized reports of a trip.
The White House dismissed rumors. “A trip to Pakistan has not been scheduled at this time,” said a White House official.
The reaction occurred after two local television news channels reported on Thursday that the president of the United States is expected to visit Pakistan in September, citing familiar sources with the matter.
Foreign Ministry spokesman said he was not aware of Trump’s expected visit. The two television news channels said Trump would also visit India after arriving in Islamabad in September.
The relations between the United States and Pakistan saw a great impulse when Trump received the head of the Army Chief also in the White House last month at an unprecedented meeting.
A spokesman for the United States Embassy in Islamabad told Reuters: “We have nothing to announce,” and said the White House could provide confirmation about the president’s schedule.
The Pakistan Ministry of Information did not respond to a Reuters request for a comment. India will be to organize the summit of the so -called quadruple countries this year, but the dates for the meeting have not yet been announced.
The Quad group includes the United States, India, Australia and Japan and focuses on counteracting China’s rise in the Indo-Pacific region.
