The Polish Tennis Star IgA Swiatek fell into straight sets for the Avenedizo Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals of the US Open on Wednesday, and had an irritable exchange with a reporter later.

Swiatek gathered a solid season. He won in Wimbledon for the first time in his career and made the semifinals of the Australian Open, the only Grand Slam tournament that he has not yet won. A second title of the US Open continues to avoid it. He retired from the quarterfinals in 2024 and lost in the fourth round in 2023. He won two individual WTA titles this year.

Swiatek was not about to put excuses on his game, and especially he was not willing to say he was fatigued. Competitive desire and general frustration led to the awkward exchange with a journalist, according to the tennis channel.

When asked if he needed a “mental rest,” Swiatek shot, “why would you say that?”

“Talk to the people responsible for the schedule. Do you need a mental break?” She asked, following: “It seems that you need a mental break.”

The journalist agreed that they may need a “mental rest.”

“Well, then what are you doing here?” Swiatek asked. The journalist replied that they have to reach the end of the tournament.

“Good luck,” he said.

Swiatek entered the tournament in number 2 position in the world. But it was Wimbledon’s revenge with Anisimova that sent him home from Flushing Meadows.

Anisimova won 6-4, 6-3, and will face Naomi Osaka in the US Open semifinals.
