Washington: American officials said on Monday that the State Department authorized the sale of $ 1.4 billion in military aircraft and teams to the United Arab Emirates, before the visit of President Donald Trump this week.

The sale proposed to the state of the Gulf involves six Chinook CH-47F helicopters and other teams for $ 1.32 billion that “would support the foreign policy and national security of the United States,” officials of the office of the Department of State of Political-Militar Affairs said in a statement.

“The EAU will use these assets in search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support and anti -terrorist operations,” they said.

“The United Arab Emirates are a vital partner of the United States for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.”

Trump is scheduled to visit the Petroleum rich states of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the EAU this week to discuss diplomatic needs in the Middle East, along with the main businesses that could touch anything, from defense and aviation to artificial energy and intelligence.

In addition to the helicopters, the State Department approved the sale of $ 130 million in components of F-16 combat aircraft.

In a statement separately, the officials of the State Department said that the F-16 parties would improve the “capacity of the EAU to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity to meet their national defense requirements.”

Congress has 30 days to block the proposed sale.
