USF approves RS7.49b for high -speed Internet, 4G expansion

The Board of Directors of the Universal Service Fund (USF) has approved seven main telecommunications projects worth RS7.49 billion to improve high -speed Internet and mobile connectivity for almost 960,000 people in 347 locations in 10 districts of Pakistan.

The announcement was made during the 98th Meeting of the Board of the USF, chaired by Zarar Hasham Khan, secretary of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications, held at the USF headquarters on Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, Pakistan radio reported.

Among the approved initiatives are two large -scale fiber optic cable projects aimed at providing a high -speed fixed broadband at approximately 2.8 million people in the districts of Sanghar and Jhang. These projects will imply the deployment of 940 kilometers of fiber optic infrastructure, linking 113 cities and trade union advice.

“The fund is not only launching new projects, but also monitoring the timely completion of existing initiatives,” said Zarar Hasham Khan. “Under the guidance of the Federal Minister of IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the USF is remodeling the Pakistan digital ecosystem.”

Khan said that the continuous efforts of the USF have already connected more than 37 million people throughout the country. “These efforts are helping young entrepreneurs and women in remote areas to become independent workers and start business, which increases Pakistan’s exports,” he added.

The Board granted the seven contracts to the lowest bidders after a complete acquisition process. The two O ofc projects alone are valued at more than 5.65 billion rupees. The Sanghar segment will require 415 kilometers of fiber, while the JHANG component will cover 525 kilometers.

Five other projects, with a combined value greater than RS1,83 billion, will bring 4G mobile broadband services to almost 1,000 villages and settlements in Atock, Khushab, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Chinint, Badin and Abbottabad.

Projects are part of a broader effort to accelerate digital inclusion and stimulate economic activity through better Internet connectivity throughout Pakistan.
