Vacuum Treasury Banks Draw Ire

LAHORE:

The Punjab Assembly unanimously approved a resolution that congratulates the Chief of Army Personnel (COA), Syed also Munir, in its elevation to the field of field marshal, praising its leadership in ensuring remarkable success in the recent conflict with India.

The resolution, moved by the Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N) MPA Shaukat Raja, praised the Armed Forces for their strategic excellence and value.

He declared that General Munir, through his military wisdom and insight, effectively frustrated each hostile movement of India, obtaining a decisive victory that reinforced Pakistan’s position on the global stage.

In spite of the rare consensus in all the lines of the party on the resolution, the procedures of the Assembly were eclipsed by the criticisms of the opposition, which criticized the government for its visible lack of interest in the legislative business of the session, particularly during a general discussion about the deterioration of the situation and the order of the province.

The opposition leader, Ahmad Khan Bhachahar, strongly criticized the absence of ministers and officials of the treasure banks, noting that only an AMP of the ruling party was present during the debate, while the official gallery remained completely empty.

He expressed concern about the increase in crime, accusing the government of negligence and not fulfilling their promises to guarantee public safety.

“The law and order have collapsed. In just two days, 324 and 370 criminal incidents occurred in Lahore respectively. This proves the severity of the situation,” he said, citing recent police data.

At one point, Presidents Panel Sami Ullah Khan also expressed his discontent for the lack of assistance from government officials.
