Karachi: The case of a young man torture in the Ittehad Defense Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi took an unexpected turn on Thursday when the victim, Sudheer, appeared before the court and said he had forgiven the suspects and wanted to chase not charges against them.
At the beginning of the week, judicial magistrate South Court had sent two suspects, Salman Farooqi and Owaish Hashmi, to police custody for two days in relation to the assault, which caused a wide public outrage.
The case against the suspects was recorded at the Gizri police station in the complaint of an eyewitness called Salem. He said that a minor collision took place on May 31 between a SUV and a motorcycle near Ittehad commercial in DHA phase.
After the accident, the motorcyclist and his sisters also offered an apology.
However, Farooqi supposedly ordered his associates to force the motorcyclist into his vehicle, where he was beaten, threatened at gun and humiliated. According to the reports, the victim’s sister, who was present, was also pushed despite her pleas.
Several spectators recorded the incident, and the videos soon became viral online, which caused an immediate notice of the SSP Sur and the Interior Minister. After that, the police carried out raids and arrested the suspects.
The suspects were presented to the additional district and South Court sessions judge today. Sudheer, the victim, was also present this time. He identified both suspects, but said he did not know that he had been summoned by the court, only learning through his lawyer today.
The court asked him if he was under any pressure, Sudheer replied that he did not want to pursue the case and had forgiven the suspects. He also declared that he would not have objections to any trial that the court makes.
Sudheer said it was his fault since his motorcycle had collided with the car.
The defendant’s lawyer said that the levels level in the case were bail. However, the prosecutor opposed the bail request, arguing that the suspects were also reserved under sections related to the issuance of threats and humiliating a woman, who are unpaid crimes. After the arguments of the lawyers, the court reserved its verdict on the bail statement for a couple of hours, before dismissing the request of both suspects.
Meanwhile, judicial magistrate South Court has sent the two suspects to jail in judicial prison. The Court has requested a progress report from the investigating officer at the next hearing.
