Nintendo and Universal executives will shout “Waaaa!” today (February 23) after the appearance of an important person in The Super Mario Galaxy movie (TSMGM) online filtering.
The animated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. movie, TSMGMAt the time of publication, the launch is just over a month away. In fact, one of the many new movies of 2026 will be released in theaters on April 1.
Unfortunately for the legendary Japanese video game company and its movie studio partner, one of TSMGMThe biggest surprises seem to have been accidentally revealed ahead of time. According to the website of the British cinema chain Everyman Cinema, none other than Wario, another of Mario’s staunchest enemies, will appear as part of TSMGMThe growing set. In fact, as the movie’s description on the website says, the legendary Italian plumber and his allies will have to deal with the “evil alliance of Wario and Bowser Jr.” as part of its main narrative.
This is not the first time we have heard about Bower Jr.’s involvement in the sequel to one of the highest-grossing films of 2024. Confirmation of his role as the chief antagonist came as part of The Super Mario Galaxy movieThe official trailer is revealed alongside the news that writer-director Benny Safdie (The crushing machine, uncut gems) would give him a voice.
However, Nintendo and Universal were likely keeping Wario’s big screen debut a secret, so this leak will be a major blow to the pair’s plan to keep the appearance of Mario’s former adversary a secret. At the time of publishing this article at 3pm GMT on Monday, February 23, Wario has also not been removed from the plot summary, so Nintendo and Universal may not be aware that his appearance has been spoiled.
Wario and Bowser Jr. aren’t the only characters from the Mario franchise making their big screen debut in TSMGM. Princess Rosalina, Luma’s chief protector, will also appear, voiced by Marvel actress Brie Larson. Unfortunately for Donkey Kong fans, his name was missing from the cast list when The Super Mario Galaxy movieThe name and release date were announced last September. So don’t expect to see Mario’s villain-turned-ally appear in the latter’s next cinematic adventure.
