Karachi:
The general secretary of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), Waqar Mehdi, was chosen for the Senate with a clear majority on Tuesday, ensuring 111 votes against its opponent, Nighat Mirza of the Muttahida Qaumi (MQM) movement, which achieved only 36.
The partial choice was held to fill the seat in the general Senate that was vacant after the death of the main leader of the PPP, Senator Taj Haider.
The vote took place in the Sindh Assembly building, which had been designated as the voting station of the day.
According to Sindh’s electoral commissioner, Ejaz Anwar Chauhan, the surveys began at 9 am and continued uninterrupted until 4 pm of 161 eligible members of the Sindh Assembly, 149 cast their votes.
Two tickets were rejected due to incorrect brands. Sindh’s prime minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, issued the final vote before the voting window closed.
The dominant PPP presence in the Sindh Assembly, where he has 116 seats, gave the party a comfortable advantage over his rivals. MQM has 36 seats, while five members are allied with Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-E-Islami have one.
The minimum threshold required for victory was 81 votes, a PPP brand crossed easily.
The partial election injected a rare political activity and a sensation of hum in the facilities of the Sindh Sindas Assembly.
After the conclusion of the vote, the vote count began immediately, and the result was officially announced by the return officer and the provincial elections commissioner, Ejaz Anwar Chauhan.
