Water levels increase in the Jhelum River after the unnoticed discharge of India

India has released additional water to the Jhelum river of the Indian Jammu & Kahsmir (Iiojk) without prior notice, which caused concerns about the increase in water levels.

As a result, the river is experiencing a flood situation, with a flow of 22,000 Cusecs that pass through the Domel area of Muzaffrabad.

Local authorities have issued a warning to citizens, advising them to remain away from the Jhelum River due to the growing risk of floods.

This development occurs shortly after a tragic incident in the Pahalgam district of Iiojk, where 26 people were killed and more than a dozen other wounds in a shooting in a popular tourist site.

Following the attack of Pahalgam, the Hindu nationalist government of India, without carrying out any investigation, blamed Pakistan for the incident and unilaterally announced the suspension of the swing of the Indo’s waters, which was negotiated by the World Bank in 1960 to govern the exchange of river waters between the two countries.

Pakistan quickly rejected the unilateral movement of India to suspend the swing of the Indo waters, qualifying it as a violation of the agreement.

The National Security Committee of Pakistan issued a solid statement, stating that water is a critical national interest and lifeguard for more than 240 million Pakistani.

The committee emphasized that any attempt to block or divert the water flow from the Pakistan part would be considered as an act of war, and Pakistan will protect its water resources at all costs.
