It has been a long time, but Microsoft is clearly competing with the Valve vapor with its new Xbox full screen experience. The user interface for hand games for games is an exclusive timed for Rog Xbox ally, but we have already seen what you have to offer on other devices.
As reported by our friends at Windows Central, the original Asus Rog ally can now execute the new full screen experience, with obvious performance increases compared to Windows 11th desktop mode. It is available through a Reddit guide (which requires the preview of Windows 11 25h2 and the registration editions), long before its official launch in the new ally of Rog Xbox.
That is significant since Microsoft has made it clear that a deployment of another hand will occur in 2026, after its launch at Rog Xbox Ally. The latter has the opportunity to become one of the best PC of hand games, although I am not excited for the similar reasons for my colleague Rhys Wood. However, some users have been able to get ahead of the curve.
Windows Central also highlights the numerous background processes that are executed in Windows 11 desktop mode, which drastically increases the use of CPU and RAM while inactive, which finally compromises the game performance with lower picture speeds in the game. In full screen experience, the number of background services decreases, which leads to much lower resources consumption.

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, When executing the full screen experience, Windows Central managed an average of 38 fps, while Windows 11 desktop mode reached an average of 29 fps, showing a performance loss of 26% when Windows 11 is used as normal (highlighted in the previous YouTube video).
It is worth noting that if you already disable starting applications, it eliminates background services, or better yet, use Tiny11 (which comes without Windows 11 Bloratware), it is likely that you do not notice any performance gain when changing to the full screen experience. However, perhaps the most important thing is how I would go to the full screen experience on the desktop PCs, but it seems that this does not work yet, using the Reddit solution. Nvidia Hardware (which I am using) supposedly does not play well with Star in game mode, so I look forward to this alternative of full -screen experience and its potential on the desktop side.
Analysis: Steamos and Bazzite are still too strong against Windows 11
After using the Allied Asus Rog with Bazzite installed, and the Lenovo Legion Go s with an official Steamos license, I am still very doubtful that Microsoft’s efforts are gone to me or most fans.
It is still early for Microsoft, since the full screen experience is not even officially available, but that does not mean that it cannot take into account that a lot of work should be done to catch up with Steimos.
Valve’s work in the Steamos user interface has done wonders for the steam deck, and now the users of Lenovo Legion Go S. unless Microsoft offers updates and support consistent in the same way, I would wait for a long time before Microsoft can approach Steamos.
It is also worth noting that Bazzite (a clone of Steamos) is available for a broader variety of hand computers and even PC for desktop games, since we only have official support for the steam cover and the Legion Go S. and since Microsoft’s full screen experience does not officially reach other hand computers until 2026, it will probably leave most of the alternatives.
