- We may not see the OnePlus Open 2 until later in 2025
- Previous leaks predicted a launch in the first quarter of 2025.
- Major improvements have been rumored for the foldable.
A quick look at our OnePlus Open review will tell you why we’re looking forward to the foldable phone’s successor, although if a new leak is to be believed, the wait for the OnePlus Open 2 could be longer than originally thought.
According to tipster Sanju Choudhary (via GSMArena), the phone will no longer be covered during the second half of next year, anytime starting in July. This contradicts a previous rumor that it would be revealed in the first three months of 2025.
There’s no indication whether OnePlus has changed its plans or whether the launch date was originally set for the first quarter of next year and has since been delayed (designing foldable phones is a complicated challenge, after all).
It’s also fair to say that none of these rumors can be confirmed until OnePlus makes its announcement. The original OnePlus Open launched in October 2023, which doesn’t really tell us much about the timeline of its successor.
Updates on the way
Every time OnePlus’ next foldable phone comes out, it seems like it will be worth the wait, which has been 14 months and counting. Rumors point to significant improvements in terms of the rear camera and internal components.
We’ve also heard that the OnePlus Open 2 will have the largest battery ever in a foldable phone, as well as being thinner and more water-resistant than the phone it replaces. That’s a significant amount of improvements to expect.
In our review of the OnePlus Open, we described the phone as “the only foldable phone that makes no compromises”, and especially praised the design and camera setup, so the upcoming update has a lot to live up to.
Before we look at another foldable from OnePlus, we’ll look at the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R available worldwide – OnePlus has confirmed this will happen on January 7, so we could also get a sneak peek at the OnePlus Open 2 at the same time.
