- Doctor Who Episode 2 of season 2 will be a live action animation hybrid
- Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu explain how they prepared to play animated characters in ‘Lux’
- The chapter will have a totally animated villain called Mr. Ring-A-Ding
Doctor WhoThe two main stars have revealed the unusual task that were assigned to prepare for the next episode of season 2.
In statements to Techradar, Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu discussed the exciting but challenging process of giving life to the doctor and Bel in an animated way. That is because, if it was not yet clear, the next episode of the iconic science fiction series will be a live action hybrid, one that will see that the main duo of the program became animated characters.
The second episode of Doctor Who Season 2, titled ‘Lux’, will see the intrepid time traveler and his new companion trip to Miami from the 1950s. However, once there, they will discover that a local theater is hiding a scary secret. That will be Mr. Ring-A-Ding, a totally animated villain who, as he made fun of Doctor Who The first trailer of season 2, kidnaps humans and makes them cartoon forms of themselves.
The appearances of Mr. Ring-A-Ding in that teaser and Doctor Who The official trailer of season 2 immediately reminded me of the animated style of the rubber hose of the golden era of the cartoons of the United States. It is an art form that was mainly used in the 1930s, with companies such as Walt Disney Animation Studios, Fleischer Studios and Walter Lantz Productions that imbute their animated offers with their surreal qualities.
While this animation form influenced some of the images in ‘Lux’, Gatwa and Sethu told me that the style used to give life to their character is actually inspired by another famous animation study in Hanna-Barbera. With the legendary Lord time and Bel transformed into cartoon versions of themselves in the next Disney+ Show entrance, the Russell T. Davies shows established them before they filmed the second installment of this season.
“It was a lot of fun!” Gatwa responded with enthusiasm. “He [filming ‘Lux’] It was the highlight of shooting this season.
“In the script, each animation style had noted so that we see it, so we knew the style of animation that was going to be used in our characters. It was like a type of Hanna-Barbera cartoon, so we spent our morning looking Scooby-Doo.
“We are serious actors, we do our research!” He continued with a laugh. “But, we needed to get into the right -handed space to represent those scenes. We filmed them in person, so we had to discover all the movements in our animated form in advance.
“It is much higher than how normal people communicate,” Sethu added about one of the best chapters of Disney+ Shows. “Then, they told us to look Scooby-Doo To replicate those exaggerated movements. Those were later encouraged by our fantastic team. It was very fun to see how the whole process worked and we were very excited to see how our cartoons were seen once the episode was completed. “
