If you’re like me, mulling over your dream camera gear can become a habit. That lens you wish you had or the one missing from your camera system’s range. Fujifilm just democratized the process… in a way.
During a ‘Focus on Glass – Untold Stories’ live event, the retro digital camera maker proposed 14 lens concepts and wants you to give your opinion on your favorites.

The favorites
There is room to choose your three favorites and I have cast my vote. Fujifilm has set the voting results to be live, meaning that once you’ve voted you’ll be able to see the favourites, with the voting updated every 5 minutes.
I’m not surprised to learn which are the two options that are moving away from the rest in the first 24 hours; the XF 16-80mm f/2.8 and the
Remember, X-mount lenses are APS-C format, meaning the above lenses have equivalent focal lengths of 24-120mm and 27-75mm in full-frame terms, respectively. The f/2.8 zoom is expected to weigh between 400 and 500g, and the f/1.4 zoom less than 800g, so both are moderately light and compact considering the optical construction.
The XF 16-80mm f/2.8 is likely to top the overall vote – it looks like the perfect travel lens. I, however, would love to see one of the “character-rich” options: an XF 90mm f/2 APD. If you’re not familiar with what APD stands for, it refers to an apodizing element, a rarity in today’s lenses and designed to add additional dreamy bokeh effects for portraits.
Fujifilm’s option is the equivalent of a 135mm focal length in full-frame terms, and is reminiscent of a Nikon F-mount lens I had for many years before charging more than I paid for it, the legendary 135mm f/2 DC. Sony also has a lens in its lineup, a 135mm STF (smooth transition focus).
I’m sure you will have your own ideas too. So if you want to have your say, head over to Fujifilm’s site to see all the options, which also includes an XF 33mm F1.0, and cast your vote. You can choose up to three of the 14 options.
Of course, there are no guarantees that any of these lenses will be manufactured. However, I’m a big fan of Fujifilm involving the public in such processes, and I’m sure that if one or both of those two favorites were produced, they would be super popular.
