Western weather system to hit Balochistan and Sindh between March 25 and 28

Karachi to face strong winds and sudden heavy rains as above normal temperatures will amplify the system

KARACHI:

A western weather system is likely to affect the country between March 25 and 28, and its effects are expected to be more pronounced in Balochistan, the Meteorological Department warned on Monday.

According to Anjum Nazir Zaigham, deputy director of Karachi Meteorological Department, the system is expected to enter Balochistan via Iran, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the province. It will also affect Sindh, including Karachi, where its influence is likely to be affected by strong winds and sudden heavy rains.

The weather in Karachi today is clear with bright sunshine. For the next two days, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy, and daytime temperatures are likely to range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures across the country have remained above normal in February and March, the deputy director said, adding that higher-than-normal temperatures tend to increase the intensity and variability of weather patterns in the coming days.

On Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a western weather system is affecting most parts of the country, with rain and thunder expected in Karachi.

Additionally, thunder rain is also likely in several rural districts of Sindh including Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze and Dadu.

Rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed several parts of Karachi early on the first day of Eidul Fitr. The downpour, which intensified at intervals, turned the festive morning into a wet and chaotic affair, forcing many citizens to modify their plans as movement became difficult in several areas.
