When the iPhone was still one thing, it was well understood that “” special edition “was defended, but applying that logic to the iPhone 16E, which Apple announced on February 19, makes no sense. That would make it the “Iphone 16 edition.”
That “E”, however, must represent something.
Apple is not talking about that. Trust me, I asked him. However, a small investigation reveals that Apple has used the “E” a couple of times before. There were EMAC of 2002, where “e” defended “education.” Such nomenclature clearly left the intention of the product. Apple wanted schools to adopt this cheaper, square and sweet computer. I don’t think they were very successful.
Twenty years before that, Apple sold Apple Iie, where the “E” on its second -generation personal desktop PC was quite popular was “improved.”
From what I can say, those are the only ones that Apple applied an “E” to the name of a product. However, the iPhone 16E is not a “education” smartphone or exactly an “improved” model.
There are other ideas that I think, when reflecting, they have some sense, but first, we have to step back and ask why this new phone that depends on 5G, 128 GB, 6.1 inches Super Retina XDR is not called iPhone Se 4.
What does ‘E’ mean for you?
Clearly, with its large amount of updates, including a more powerful rear camera (48mp), the A18 chip that admits Apple’s intelligence, facial identification, wireless load and action button, this is nothing like any Model se. It has much more in common with all other iPhone 16 models. The notch, instead of a dynamic island, is strange and feels like a setback, but otherwise, the iPhone 16E feels as part of the new family.
But those differences, such as notch, the lack of support of Magsafe and the control of the missing camera, also make it distinctive.
Perhaps I would accept that some of those missing attributes may not be fundamental to the experience of the iPhone 16 (is camera control necessary?) And, in general, could consider this phone of $ 599 “exciting” because it is relatively affordable to the time provided by the “essential” iPhone 16 “experience.
I think you get where I go. If I had to guess, I would say that Apple is being a bit “enigmatic” and using a handful of words “and” to define this model. That is not necessarily a bad thing, since it means that the “E” on the iPhone 16E can mean what you want to mean.
I think Apple lost a chance here. This is the first and only iPhone 16 with the new C1 cellular modem. The introduction of this Apple silicon piece is a big problem and makes the new phone special or “Special.” Why Apple did not name this, the iPhone 16s is beyond me.
This may not have been the answer you were looking for, but I think we have. I hope everyone is well with that.
