If you are looking for a high -end preamplifier audio matrix and multiple rooms for potentially massive home installation systems, McIntosh has the thing. The new CR106 delivers up to six independent audio zones of a single unit, and can be connected in network with others to provide up to 30 different, customizable and controllable zones.
The CR106 combines a preamplifier and audio matrix, essentially a traffic controller for the audio, which provides the ability to establish custom audio settings for different areas, and works with a wide range of amplifiers and speakers. It can be mounted on rack on a standard AV shelf, where it will occupy a modest 2U of shelf space.
McIntosh CR106: key characteristics and prices
The CR106 is controlled through the McIntosh Connect application for Apple and Android, through a web interface OA through its frontal panel. The application offers many zone customization tools, which allows you to name each area, group several joints, select audio sources for different areas and configure your subwoofer configuration as well.
There are four unbalanced analog entries and four digital, and if you have a large home or budget, you can chain up to five CR106 units together through the Dante Network interface to create up to 30 areas of two channels.
In addition to hardware inputs, there are also Bluetooth with AAC, APTX HD and APTX Adaptive, so you can transmit in one of these units and send it to any of the configurations connected with cable.
Each area that admits has two sets of unbalanced outputs and dedicated subwoofer exits.
The CR106 will be available worldwide for McIntosh dealers since August 2025. The MSRP is $ 5,500 / £ 6,999.
