- Windscribe gives away $42,000 and a lifetime VPN for the best animation
- Participants must create a 60-second video of two server location nicknames.
- The submission deadline is March 26, 2026.
If you have a knack for animation and an odd sense of humor, Windscribe’s latest marketing stunt could pay your rent for the year. The Canadian VPN provider, known for its irreverent brand voice and generous free tier, has announced the “Windscribe Animated Production Fest,” a contest featuring a massive $42,000 prize pool.
While many of the best VPN services stick to direct advertising about encryption and IP masking, Windscribe is asking its community to get creative. The company offers real “hard cash” to animators who can produce a short video based on the provider’s unique server naming convention.
Unlike standard contests that ask for a generic review or retweet, this challenge requires real production value. The Grand Prize winner will walk away with $10,000, while thousands more will be distributed across various categories, including “Best Vibes,” “Funniest” and “Best Character.”
In addition to cash, winners in each category will receive a lifetime VPN subscription to Windscribe Pro, a benefit the company rarely sells directly anymore.
For creative professionals or hobbyists looking to protect their digital privacy forever while making some money, this is a unique opportunity.
How to participate in the Windscribe Animated Production Fest
The contest rules are characteristically specific but open. To participate, participants must download the Windscribe app (the free VPN version works fine) and open the location list.
Windscribe assigns nicknames to its server locations; For example, the Chicago server is called “Cub” and the London server could be called “Crumpets.” The contest requires you to choose two of these location nicknames and integrate them into a single narrative.
According to the ad video, you must “make a 30-60 second animation based on two Windscribe location nicknames.” The team offered an odd example to get the creative juices flowing: choosing the locations of “Hot Dog” and “Garden” to create an animation about “a hot dog flower garden.”

The contest is open to “any style, any vibe,” as long as the duration is between 30 and 60 seconds. However, the final competition is between human animators and AI art generators.
“For years, there has been a debate about whether AI (aka clankers) can produce real art, or if everything it spits out is destined to be garbage. Well, we at Windscribe decided to invest money in this debate,” explains Windscribe.
That is why the contest is divided into two, but with the same objective: to create an animation. Some prices are reserved for exclusively human creations and others for works made with the help of any tool you want.
You have until March 26, 2026 to submit your registration. Full details on where to upload your video can be found on the official contest page here.
What makes Windscribe different?
Windscribe has long held a spot on our radar as one of the best free VPNs available, offering a generous 10GB monthly data allowance that far surpasses competitors like TunnelBear. However, it is the company’s marketing strategy that really sets it apart from giants like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.
Windscribe cultivates a community through humor, meme contests, and direct participation on platforms like Discord and Reddit. This animation festival is a continuation of that strategy, crowdsourcing creativity in exchange for significant rewards.
Jokes aside, the service offers solid security features, including its ROBERT domain blocking tool. For animators, the prize of a Lifetime Pro account is particularly valuable, as it includes unlimited data and access to servers in over 69 countries, perfect for bypassing geo-restrictions on content libraries or securely transferring large project files.
