- Wix announced the purchase base44
- Base44 is a popular low code platform/no code fed by AI
- It will continue to be a separate entity
Wix.com, one of the best websites builders in the world, is jumping on the Vibe coding car with the base acquisition44.
This morning, the company shared a press release with Techradar Pro, in which it announced its purchase of the platform with AI that “allows any person to create personalized and completely functional software solutions and applications using natural language, without the need for traditional coding.”
Wix bought base44 for $ 80 million and possibly agreed to pay even more until 2029, depending on how well bases work44. He did not detail what metrics he will track in that regard.
Base44 will not merge in WIX, but will remain a different product and business, the company confirmed. Do not expect the acquisition to sit in its reservations and income of 2025 as well. “We hope to incur approximately $ 25 million in retention bonus payments paid for base employees44 in 2025 as part of the previous initial consideration paid in the transaction, which will be excluded from the results of FLOP and Free Cash Flow (FCF) No GAAP,” reads the press release.
According to similar, Base44 has more than 40,000 users, which makes it a fairly popular solution among web application builders, particularly those that seek to avoid conventional development obstacles. It comes with services incorporated as database administration, user authentication, email, analysis, storage, accommodation and even domain/DNS configuration. It has an interface to drag and release, since recently also compatible with a conversational chatbot.
Ai in abundance
In recent times, Wix has been aggressively adding generative artificial intelligence (Genai) as a whole of products and solutions. In December 2024, he demonstrated AI Site Chat, a feature designed to serve as a virtual agent for customers. In January 2025, Business Launcher launched, an AI tool designed to help entrepreneurs create new commercial initiatives, from the concept to execution, and a few months later, in May, it introduced the context server of the Wix model (MCP), which allows users to generate code through assistants of AI such as Claude, Cursor and Windsurf.
“This acquisition marks a fundamental milestone in Wix’s commitment to transform online creation,” said Avishai Abrahami, CEO and Wix co -founder. “Maor and his team based44 provide avant -garde technology, strong market penetration and visionary leadership that align without problems with the dedication of WIX to allow users at all levels of experience to express their intention, while smart agents handle execution.”
For Maor Shlomo, CEO of Base44, there is no better adjustment than Wix.
“Wix is probably the only company that can help Base44 to achieve the scale and distribution it needs while maintaining, if not accelerating, the speed of our product,” he said. “Our market is massive. It has the potential to replace complete software categories by allowing people to create software instead of buying it. Wix’s DNA: its obsession with customers, innovation and speed, aligns perfectly with ours, and its scale will catapult base44 backward exactly at the right time.”

Owain Williams
Owain is the website builder expert in Techradar. It has spent innumerable hours reviewing website builders, bloggers live and talking in website builder events and interviewing key executives of larger websites builders, including Wix, Squarespace, Hostinger, Godaddy and Webflow.
Given all the buzz around the coding of environments, I expected Wix to jump into space in some way or form in the coming months.
Although the world’s largest website builder is not the first through the door of the ‘Vibe’ party, Hostinger released its own Vibe coding platform called ‘Horizons’ in February this year, that does not mean that it is behind. When acquiring base44, Wix has skipped an important stage of development, helping to unlock a leading industry product without having to go through the first often problems.
Given Wix’s commitment to become a platform all in one for companies, I am surprised by the decision not to integrate base44 into the Wix platform. I asked Wix if I would need a separate membership for base44, it will, although there is currently a free plan available so you can try it without having to pay another subscription.
The press release did not mention any plan to add the base platform44 to WIX, I suspect that it may be in process, but when that could be it is not clear.
